We are not supposed to show movies bought for home use or recorded from television because they are not for group audiences. I assume that means copyright infringement of some kind. The safest thing for us is to use the movies found in the school media center.
Also, the movie should connect to the curriculum. All teachers have vcr's in their classrooms, and their use is not monitored very closely, to my knowledge, but the pressure to score high on standardized tests limits the movies shown, I think.
