Paddles in Louisiana

Yes it is legal, but we all have a choice and I chose at both schools that I have worked for to turn in the paddles to the office. I knew I would never use them and did not even want them in my classroom. I choose not to paddle students although I do swat my own toddlers' hands or hineys if I have said no and what they are doing will hurt them more than the swat. By school age however there are other consequences that can be effective. When worse comes to worse I do call parents on a last resort because the parents here do "whoop" their children and there is a noticable difference in attitude and behavior afterwards. I still feel that spanking a child is only a temporary fix and not a solution.
What wonderful credentials you have as a teacher Iteachsecond! I know your expertice would be welcome in my parish. I don't believe I know of a teacher in my parish that is Nationally Certified. Congratulations!
