I wasn't sure whether you meant a center using prewritten poems or a center where the children write their own poems. I bought poetry/story magnets from a company that comes to our school every month with books for the teachers to buy.I have also seen them in Border's Books. I put out the magnets and some cookie sheets and the students can move the words around and make their own poems. You can put out poetry forms for them to write the poems out. I wanted to get them away from the idea that poetry has to rhyme and that it has to be funny. I have also had my students write Haikus for each season of the year. I introduce the concept in the fall and then after they have completed one I would put out a stack of the different forms (pumpkins, leaves, snowflakes, snowmen, starfish, school buses, etc. depending on the time of year and have them write brainstorm a list of words on that topic and then write a haiku.
