    more than a good story

There is more to teaching reading than reading the children a good book. After they learn that letters make sounds, they need to shown that those sounds make words and the words make sentences and the sentences make a story. You are modeling that to them as you both enjoy the story.
Talk about the characters, where they are. What happens in the beginning of the story. What the problem is and how will they solve it? I love to leave a story right at the point of the problem and come back to it later. It makes them think about it a little more.

    Books are great teaching tools!
