    Morning Snacks

A teacher I know asks parent to send in enough snacks for everyone for one day each month. At the beginning of each month, many bags of snacks are brought in. The student whose job that is on a given day goes to the supply closet at 9:30, chooses a snack, and passes it to each student. They go to special classes at 10:00, so they can get a drink of water and dispose of the wrapper then. It is done without disrupting the class at all. Mostly they have Little Debbie cakes (that would be Tasty Cakes in the NE) which are not the most nutritious snack, but better than sour cream potato chips, I guess. It would be much harder to manage fruit because of spoilage, the need to wash and slice, etc. This keeps students from look at the clock and desperately wishing lunchtime would come soon. The teacher could provide a list of preferable snacks when making the request. In our school, parents are asked not allowed to prepare food at home to serve to the class.
