I think you should do the cards. I did some and put them on magnets. A lot of teachers took them home to put on the refrigerator and some put them on a filing cabinet in their rooms. I agree with the above poster that you should do the best you can once you do get called...but you can't be a great sub unless you are called to sub, and the business cards have seemed to help me get called the first few times. If you want to keep getting calls, though, obviously you should do a great job!
