contract renewal By teachingmom

| I'm not sure that your child's behavior would affect your contract renewal, but you will definitely be judged by parents and teachers based on your child's behavior. (I'm not saying it's right, but that's how it is.) My kids went to the same school I taught at when they were little. My oldest is very easy going and makes great grades. My youngest (The Boy) is easy going, but he marches to his own beat. I had a parent ask me how I could teach other people's children when my own son was so "out there." (On the other hand, I had parents tell me I was probably better with the children who had issues because my own son marched to his own drummer.) However, my kids were both well behaved, but we had a teacher who had a child there who was a terror. I liked the boy, but he was very aggressive and I overheard lots of teachers and parents make comments about her "lack of control of her own son, so how can she control a classful of other people's children."I don't agree with these statements, but I know it happens. (We left the area, and I decided to put my kids in a different school than the one I taught in. It's not best for everyone, butin my case my son thrived. He became much more independent. He's still flakey, but he's my flake! Good luck.
