    You didn't mention what grade you teach. Anyone who hits or kicks should have an incident report written up - if only to cover your own butt, but also because if your administration knows you're papering the place with documentation, the violent children will be removed, and you'll be able to teach.

    It's still early in the school year for these kids to have th idea that you mean business. Make sure you've figured out how to get them where it hurts. If you're sending notes home to parents who don't care if their kids get in trouble, that's not going to help.

    Where are they getting hold of the rubber bands? Do you have your supplies out or locked up? If they're supposed to be using the rubber bands normally (geoboard Everyday Math Exploration, anyone?), take them away the second they start flinging them and shut down the exploration.

    Hang in there - around February it will calm down...if you have great classroom management skills LOL. Good luck!
