    Differentiated Math

I also teach 4th grade and I learned this idea at a Differentiated learning and looping conference.

They are called Computation Folders. They consist of packets created using skills from the state benchmarks. For example, there is a subtraction with regrouping packet (10-15 pages). I create about 6 or 7 of the same packets, along with packets for the rest of the computation benchmarks.

    Packet 1: Addition Facts
    Packet 2: Subtraction Facts
    Packet 3: Adding without regrouping
    Packet 4: Adding with regrouping
    etc.

I then gave an initial assessment to decide in which packet to place students. (I usually set them back by one skill to have time to teach the skill they were ready for)

Students then work independently in their own packet on their own level. I check the packets and give an assessment when they complete the packet to see if they mastered the computation skill.

This allows for time to pull small groups for specific needs and allows students to work at their own levels.
