Another thing to think about is transitions. These eat up so much time. I am also in the exact time crunch as you (I have the same amount of time to do the same thing). One thing I do is have kids move to reading groups first thing. Then I move to the groups with my reading basket- the kids do not move untill reading is finished.

I *try* to aim for balanced literacy and read aloud to my children. I don't always get it in and the kids love it. Will you have time for
this?
