for advanced readers and for read-alouds, I like the books by Lemony Snickett- (series of unfortunate events) the first is called "The Bad Beginning" (the movie will come to theaters in November), Beverly Cleary's Mouse and the Motorcyle books, "Holes" by Louis Sachar, Brod Baggert's books of poetry(they are funny and easy for the kids to remember),and "Stone Fox"
