I completed my student teaching in the fall of 2003. The first week of just observing was so boring but I discovered if you just sit in your seat you are wasting your time. Walk around and see if the students are working. This not only keeps you wide awake but also helps the students become used to you being seen in the classroom. My supervising teacher didn't really want me in the classroom but had no choice. While this doesn't help you feel at home it shouldn't run you off either. I discovered that once I got over feeling like the bad guy (discipline) I was much more comfortable with my teacher role. I completed 13 weeks of student teaching but would have loved to had more time in the classroom. Good luck and keep your chin up!
