    The Question (longish)

It has been my experience that each school has some sort of "pet project" or ongoing area of improvement. You can usually find out about this through the school improvement plan, school website, local newspaper, or by taking a look around the campus. You could always ask about that! Or, you might ask about the level of parental involvement and what the school does to encourage it. Does the school offer afterschool tutoring or other programs? (ooh-only ask if you might be willing to do it.) What committees would be best for a newbie to join? Do they have a school wide discipline program?

I think you should try to ask your question in a way that sounds like you assume you got the job (not arrogant, just confident) EX. I know that this area is quite rural. What are some ways that WE encourage parental participation? OR, WOW! I noticed that the volunteer wall had a lot of names on it. Where do WE get them? I sure can think of a lot of ways to use a volunteer. (This is the pet project of my AP and she LOVES when people notice) I hope this helps.

Also, the principal may lead you to your question. If for example, many of his questions revolve around reading (I bet they will!) Ask about the reading series, or if they use AR, or Book-it or another program you may be familiar with.

Good luck! I definitely think it is better to ask some questions than none at all.
