I don't remember where I read this, but thought it was a great idea. I've never had the opportunity to use it as I teach 4 & 5 year olds, so we don't do any real writing. This idea is intended for early writers. Have students write each sentence on a separate strip of paper, numbering them as they go. Then when they are ready for editing with teacher, they can easily renumber the sentences if they would work better in a different order. This eliminates arrows going all over the place & a child trying to remember how it all goes back together. The strips can also be edited for spelling, etc. at this time using the suggestion above. Before the child rewrites, he has to have the teacher ok his corrections. This may eliminate a lot of anguish for kids having to do lots of rewrites. All of the sentences will be approved before they go into a final copy.
