    New Teachers

Sounds like you have some great practical ideas so far. I really admire teachers who take on that extra responsibility. I know that when I was in the beginning teacher program years ago, we were bombarded with a bunch of theory that didn't help at all and just wasted our precious time. I mean, when you're trying to keep from drowning, you don't really care what the molecular composition of water is, you know?

    Some more ideas:
    - how to make a CPS report, what to look for, etc.

    - how to set up a room... desk arrangement ideas, etc.

    - tips for what to put in that first-day-of-school letter to parents (maybe even a template or an example)

    - if your district has benchmark exams, maybe you could get a copy of them for the new teachers and go over the first term test so that they know what they're aiming for.

    - ideas for what to do/expect on the first day of school. If the students are bringing in supplies, it would be a good idea for the new teachers to know what's being brought in, and to come up with a plan for how to organize it so they aren't swimming in kleenex boxes all day like I was that first year!

I can't think of any more right now, but if I do, I'll let you know.

Good luck! You sound like you're going to be a wonderful mentor!
