Non-fiction Books By Robin
|
| [For] novels that have elements of nonfiction in them, try books by Bill Wallace, Will Hobbs and Gary Paulsen. My kids loved Wild Man Island by Will Hobbs, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and Danger in Quicksand Swamp by Bill Wallace, among others. Cynthia DeFelice's Weasel, The Ghost and Mrs. Hobbs, and books by Jerry Spinelli (Maniac Magee is my personal favorite).
For straight nonfiction, I would look for any books in subjects they were interested in. My kids liked anything to do with space travel and exploration, slavery, volcanoes, skateboarding, states and countries and many other subjects. I also would try biographies of any people they enjoyed. Kids usually gravitate towards sports figures.
