New 5th grade teacher-help!

I have been teaching 5th grade for 10 years. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that they are so grown up that they do not appreciate stickers or the other things that primary students enjoy. I still give out stickers on every A paper that comes across my desk and for rewards they earn money for our class store. I stock it with pencils, candy, fast food lunch coupons (they are expensive), special seating in the classroom and the like. They love to earn the "money" and discipline is very easy to control. Be firm, but treat them all like individuals. You will love 5th grade.
