Look at 4-blocks

I've been teaching second grade for two years now and I LOVE the 4-blocks teaching method. The four blocks (to be taught every day) are guided reading, word work, self-selected reading, and writing. Its multi-level framework allows all of my kids to feel successful. It has also taken away a lot of the guesswork/guilt I feel about using a basal. You can use your basal during the guided reading block if you want to. However, I will caution that I do not use centers/worksheet time. I do whole group instruction where I constantly check in with my lowest readers and provide scaffolding for them. But I love the sense of control I feel about my instruction, and the kids like the consistancy of the 4-blocks along with the variety in each block. Let me know if you'd like more info.
