Just because the principal hasn't walked into the room and observed her doesn't mean he hasn't been watching. Administrators roam the halls and do listen at the doors. They see the teachers interacting in the hallways with their students. They even talk to the students. Obviously, he has seen something that the cooperating teacher hasn't shared with us...he surely must see potential in her. Please try to remember that student teaching doesn't determine the kind of teacher we will be. It is a time to learn and experience teaching in a guided manner that will help us to choose management and teaching styles for when we are on our own. Personality conflicts do occur and I feel this might be the case here and the mentor teacher appears to have it in for this student teacher. I find it extremely sad that she is going to such extreme to ruin this person's career before it has even begun. IF she is a TERRIBLE teacher then when the administration observes her next year as a first year teacher then it will all come out then and it won't reflect a bit on Sarah, but will reflect on the teacher and administration will chalk it up to a bad choice and not renew her contract. Why is Sarah taking this so personal and going after this student teacher's reputation? It's not like the hiring of this teacher is permanent! She has to earn tenure first. And if it is a favor, could be family or friend related and not sex (good grief, puul your head out of the gutter), then nothing you say or do will make a difference. Just let it go Sarah and pray that you taught her well enough so that when she is on her own next year...well she will do an excellent job and make you proud.
