flexibility, patience By Lisa
|
| This is my first year teaching gifted and I love it. I would say that you need to be flexible, as you never know when you'll start a unit and the kids will already know 90% of the concepts you throught were oringinal and advanced material! You also have to be patient with the "know-it-all" syndrome (I was one myself as a kid, so I'm sympathetic) and kindly teach the kids how to be polite even if they know they are right and someone else is wrong. Be willing to go off on a tangent-- if an opportunity to learn about something unique presents itself, or if a child offers to teach the other kids about his/her pet interest, go for it!
