I don't have any that this is a problem with but I usually find a consequence that fits the crime, so If they leave the carpet and miss 5 minutes of carpet time I'd have them sit on the carpet for 5 minutes either during a free choice playtime or recess. I have a little guy who hurts other kids int he mudroom getting ready so if he does that then the next day he can't go into the mudroom to get ready until all the other kids are done, which means he misses some playtime to get ready. It also has to be a consequence that works, so if the child hates going out for recess missing 5 mintues of recess won't bother them.
