I think parents are my least favourite aspect of teaching. This week I had one write me a note as follows: "Happy New Year! I believe trapezoid is spelled with an 'e', not an 'i' as you spelled it. Also, you told the students to indent a paragraph with 5 spaces but your example on the homework assignment only has 4 spaces." In the first case, her son copied it off the board wrong, in the second case it was 5 spaces, not 4, if it even mattered! Can you believe how absurd some parents can be??Don't let it rattle you. Things like this do bother me even though they're minor and shouldn't. I tell myself if I let myself get upset, then the parent has won, because that was their goal. If I don't get upset, then it's only the parent who has been miserable.
