They must be disrespectful to their regualr teacher. When I have a sub, there are NO problems. Why? Because my grade five's know that if they give the sub a terrible day I will give them a terrible week. I am generally considered "the nice teacher, the cool teacher..."and have a terrific relationship with my class but all that goes out the window if those kids mistreat the sub. I become the one teacher in the whole school that no kid wants to have.
I agree that if you are having problems with a particular student, get them out of there! My team sometimes sends students across the hall (to a teammate) if one is on our last nerve. (and we ALWAYS offer this service to a sub in our group.) Good luck with the fifth. Although they are a HUGE challenge with their attitudes, they can also be very rewarding.
