However it is her class and perhaps she has planned on leaving a lot of her materials for the new teacher and even if she hasn't she has the right to choose whatever books she wants. We all start somewhere in teaching and most of us start out with nothing and have to find resources along the way. You do not know how much money she has spent in the past on her class and this is one way she can get back some of that money for her own child now. I don't see it as being unprofessional.

It was nice though that you thought about the new teacher and leaving the books for her. There are many in your position who would have wanted to get the books for themselves.
