I think all teachers feel a time crunch. I try to incorporate more than one subject at a time. For example, I will do science & reading together. This past week, for our actual science time (2 times a week for 45 min!) we did a hands-on landforms activity. After the hands-on activities we read a corresponding chapter in the science book and outlined it during our READING block. Students also read non-fiction books on science and social studies topics during their silent reading block (I pull these from the library).I have also been able to integrate math into science successfully. The AIMS series is a good starting place to help you with this. As for skills review. That makes great Bell Work...work for the students to do when they get to class in the morning before the bell. You can then go over after you take attendance. You will always find time to be lacking. Evaluate each lesson....is it timeworthy? Can you add another component to cover more of the standard course of study? Good Luck!
