I've been teaching 13 years and have spent the past 4 years in Grade One where, here, they are 5 years old turning six when they start. I had the choice of moving up with some kids to second or doing Grade One again. I moved up. This year I have just began our school year teaching second grade and it's SOOOOOOO much better. Having taught for a while I am OVER the cutsie thing... uno ("ohh, they are so sweet at this age.. yada yada") but these years are special and I do love them. BUT more independence please! I have some kids in my class that I had last year in Grade One, but I'm happy I got the move. Grade One is absolutely exhausting- I am fit but I was spent! after everyday (and still am with young Grade 2's at the moment ). However, here, there are at least 29 Grade Ones or Twos in your class every year! ![]() Good luck in your teaching.
