There is a goal setting chart you can print off of the AR Management. I set goals based on the child's STAR test score. This test gives me an average reading level. If a student is reading at a GE (grade equivalent) 5.0, I would look at the chart for 9 weeks reading 60 minutes and use the points goal. I don't require 60 minutes per day reading, so I have created my own chart using 40 minute goals. Average goals for my 4th graders would range from 11 points up to 35. It all depends on their working reading level. The school I was at before had a lot of selections. The school I am at now doesn't, so I tend to generalize points and they are lower than I would have if I was at my old school. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. A lot of people at my school ask me about the program (I went to their 2 day Renaissance training a couple of yuears ago) and I also present workshops for my district on the goals and points "stuff".
