We are lucky, our first conferences fall at the end of the 9 weeks, so I just go over the report card the first time.

I like to have a copy of testing for every student, showing where they are currently, and where I expect them to be at the end of the year. I have certain tests that I give at the end of every quarter (letter sounds, beginning sounds, ending sounds, number recognition, counting skills, CVC words, sight words etc.) I keep a master for each child, and we just go as far as they can each quarter. then continue on the next quarter (ie. the first quarter maybe they can read 29 sight words, we continue practicing them and retest at the end of the second quarter to see how much they've improved). This shows parents what I'm expecting academically by the end of the year, and helps me make sure I have myself organized for conferences. I also try to have written observations of any low scores I give in the social areas...ie. if a students receives a low grade in respects self and others, I want to have a few instances written down to share with the parent (if I don't write them down, I forget!!)
