Meghan, My mom just died Jan.8 from cancer and in the last 6 years I have lost my parents, my in-laws, my grandmother, an aunt, uncle, my husband's cousin, and aunt. They have all died during the school year. I have been teaching for 20 years and the first day going back, I have thanked my students for their prayers, and cards and letters, and the gifts they have given me. I also talked about my mother's illness briefly. It is always tough and it was especially tough this time because Mom was sick for only 6 weeks before she died. She'd had breast cancer earlier, but it was lung cancer that she died from. I did get teary for a little bit, talking about it, and then I just got them talking about what they had done while I was gone. After awhile we all got into our routine and that helps immensely. There is nothing like little children to take your mind off of your problems! (I teach second grade.)I found that the time at school was so helpful because I could think of other things than my mom and the others for a little while. Anyway, you have my sympathy. I know exactly what you are going thru and it will get better with time.
