Create a matrix of important things you want included in the student's work. Choose topics that would be common to all kids like, EARLY LIFE, SCHOOL DAYS, HOME LIFE, INTERESTING EVENTS. Begin by reading an easy picture book biography for your children. Use your matrix and fill in the appropriate area while reading. After you have modeled this process have the students fill in a blank matrix using their life experiences. Ask for at least three items in each column. When they have completed this you can have them turn the items in each column into a sentence. They then can number the sentences in the order they wish to use them. Eventually each part of the matrix will become a paragraph. Have them choose an adjective to describe themselves and that becomes the title ( AMAZING ALLY etc). Have them end with a short paragraph about their future dreams and goals. Use a camera to take a photo of each student. Allow students to draw illustrations for each area, or bring in photos to add. A great short book to read that will help kids understand what a biography is and how important it is to be accurate is JENNY ARCHER-AUTHOR. I can't remember the author's name but you can look it up on Amazon. You will really enjoy the results. Leah
