I am not a big supporter of this program, but Lindamood-Bell has a comprehension program called Visualizing & Verbalizing. I took a seminar in it last summer and there were some good ways to help make reading comprehension more concrete. I even took it a step farther and use the cues they use to make picture cues from Boardmaker to help the L-B cues more visual. While I did not use this program much, I did use their Seeing Stars program more and found that helpful. That is more on phonics and decoding though. Lindamood-Bell does have a website. Maybe you can check it out and see if it might work for this student. Good luck! Oh...also, one of my students has a hard time with visual tracking (keeping his place and following along as he reads) so he uses a "visual tracker" (I dont' know if that's the name for it or not, but that's what we call it...) its just a piece of tagboard with a slit in it to help the student just focus on what line he's reading...and blocks out the rest of the text. It is VERY helpful for my student and he uses it every day for reading. He's much less stressed and reads much faster than before.
