I teach 2nd and I find myself having to plead the same case - I want to give time to those areas because if I don't teach simple machines, the third graders will not get that info before our state test - and for the past 2 years simple machines has been on the test! It is not in 3rd grade curriculum - it's in mine! So I need to teach it in order for them to have some kind of background!
