    Roller Coaster
    By Amie

I learned a great visual aide for rounding when I was in grad school - using a roller coaster.
    1) Draw one "hill" of a roller coaster.
    2) Write the nearest tens (or hundreds, etc.) on either end of the roller coaster and the middle number at the top. (ex. - for 267, 260 & 270 on ends, 265 in middle)
    3) Place the number in its roller coaster car along the curve.
    4) If the roller coaster stopped, which way would the number roll?
    5) That's the number to which you round!
This has made sense to a lot of my kids, especially those who are very visual.
