Disgusting classroom By RT
|
| I feel your pain. Last year, a home in a wall left an exposed pipe that brought rats in my classroom. One day, a glue trap nailed three huge suckers. The hole was eventually sealed off, but we had to get rid of the pet hamsters we had in the class for fear that any new rats would go after them, as had the originial rodents. We have had roaches as big as speed bumps. What to do? I don't think unions in urban areas have the same clout as those in suburban areas. Parents in suburban school districts (and I am no fan of most of them because too many believe they own the teacher) would not put up with such conditions. In urban areas they seem very apathetic to periperhal school uses. Get used to cleaning things yourself, and try to develop a great relationship with your custodial staffers. Doing so might get you some extra clean up assistance. Good Luck.
