Disappointment over job opportunities By M.
|
| Of course I do not know what state you are in so this may not be an issue but the number one thing that I wish someone told me while student teaching is simple - be prepared to sub because the jobs are not there to get. Do you have any advice that will help these grad's eventually get a job? That will help! All I heard throughout my degree program was teach with enthusiasm (I do!), know you students! (I wish I had my own students to meet!), develop strong classroom management skills ( I did!) but what they failed to tell me was that when I graduated I wouldnt be able to actually teach my own students, because I cannot get a job. I have to settle for teaching someone else's students. I know I sound bitter and yes i am but the hiring practices are completely shrouded in secrecy where I live and it is absolutely driving me nuts! This is probably not where you want to go with your speech but honestly speaking - if you have any knowledge about how to get hired by all means share it. That would be a great help! Good luck!
