    I've moved back and forth between Texas and MI a few times and everytime I was hired a week before school started. Texas goes back in a month so I would think the hiring is just around the corner.
    I made a lot of phone calls to districts and sent schools my resume and references. One time in Texas I went from school to school with my resume and spoke to principals.
    I've never had a phone interview.
    Good luck and don't give up - call human resource depts. and ask about openings. Many openings are not ever posted.
