I work w/ elementary school children. Whenever they see a sub, they are always excited. I find that greeting them at the door works wonders. I have my name written on the board when they come in, also. If it's a situation where I pick the students up, I stop at their classroom door, while they're all lined up,and tell them to quietly/quickly put all things away and sit down so we can begin the day. If they're walking in on their own, I wait at the door and say good morning to them, as well as ask them to put their things away quickly/quietly.
