I held this position for two years in a semi-urban setting outside of Boston. I loved it! Basically, I worked most of the time in the classroom with students. Teachers would send me a list of students they felt needed extra support. I would try my best to coordinate my schedule according to the reg. ed's math times. I would co-teach with them. We would also break into small groups. It was a struggle juggling my schedule! For the older students, I would do pull out. In fifth and sixth grades, it was easier to work in small groups on specific skills. (Helps with the self-esteem thing too.) It depends on where you teach also...in MA we have the dreaded MCAS tests. I am sure that the results of these assessments could be used for eligibility. No doubt Title I funds are linked to state test results! Good luck!
