Reading independently By Tom
|
| One suggestion might be to have daily (or weekly) reader. Tell the student ahead of time (ie John, you'll be reading aloud to the class on Monday 10 minutes before school ends). Have the student choose what he or she wants to share with the class, and tell them to practice it before sharing with the class. Have a special stool designated as the "Reader's Stool" and only when they are reading to the entire class are they alowed to sit on that stool. The passage they read can be anything -- except for comic books. They can read poems, a favorite part of a book, whatever. I hope this helps. Tom
