Our school uses the 7th and 8th graders as "town criers". They do the announcements with about 10 minutes left. The kids all know to quiet down until after the announcements. If you stop what you are doing, the kids will pick up on that too. The town criers announce birthdays and reminders about club meetings and such. It is much better to listen to the kids than the secretary.
