Do you mean the SRA reading lab kits? They have stories that are a couple of pages long and then are followed by a series of questions. Each story card in the kit is leveled and children select cards that are at their reading levels and answer the questions independently. SRA is the brand-name and they are published by McGraw-Hill now. Here is the webpage if you would like to take a look. I believe the kits cost in the $500 range.
