Classroom management By Megan
|
| I teach 3rd grade this year and taught 2nd grade last year. I used pretty much the same ideas both years. Each student has a pocket of cards. Each card represents something: green=a great day, yellow=a warning, blue=a loss of 10 minutes of recess, red=call home or note home to parents. If a student does turn a blue card, during recess we fill out a sheet that asks what rule was broken, what to do next time, etc. If a student does not turn a card, he/she gets a star for that day. If a student gets stars all week, he/she gets a reward at the end of the week. I also do a whole class reward system. I have a "jar of gems". If students are all following rules, they get a gem or if they do really well in a special, they can get 5 gems. When it is full, they will get a party, popcorn/movies, etc. (something of their choice). I also have a Star Student of the Week. He/she does all the jobs which include: calendar, line leader, paper passer, lunch count/attendance, librarian and so on. I just started using this, this year and it has worked out wonderfully. The star student has his/her own bulletin board to decorate, shares their favorite book and show and tell. If you have any questions about anything, let me know.
