I put my students in teams of 4 and have them compete against each other for the most points in a grading period. At the end of the grading period, I buy a pizza for the team with the most points. If there are any students in that team who has not reached his/her goal for the grading period, he/she does not get to participate. Since there are only 4 of them, I just buy one pizza ($6 teacher special) and one 2-liter ($1.50).
