I find that a few key phrases have really helped me out. With these, the rest can happen through modeling(both of self and students) voice intonation and cues. For my monolingual student I ask him to repeat words "Dice"(pronounced dee-say) "Dice pencil...dice blue" Also, learn the words for please sit, quiet, please, great job, later, and finished. These have been lifesavers. My bilingual students help me a great deal...when they can. And the great benefit is that my monolingual english students are picking up spanish.Labeling things around the room in both languages is a great idea for two reasons. First, for the students to be exposed to print. Second, for you to be able to talk and remember key words! Again, this makes me more comfortable in my attempts to speak to my little guy. Good luck!
