You can't live in fear that something will happen. Do your best and then if a situation arises that you think might be upsetting to the parent, then document what really occurred. Answer the parents' concerns honestly but don't let them see you are upset or that they have "gotten to you". Don't argue with them. Just state the facts and be diplomatic. Tell them you understand what they are saying. If they continue to be unreasonable tell them you are sorry they feel that way but you have your students' best interest at heart and you must make decisions accordingly. If you see that a parent is really irate, you will want to have the principal sit in on the meeting. You will meet those parents who are never satisfied, but don't judge all your parents by the stories you've heard. If something happens then deal with it then but don't live in fear. That isn't fair to anyone concerned. You will have a lot of great parents too! Be sure to always tell them you appreciate their support! Good luck and have a wonderful year!
