In the instance that the child needs to fix something, I give it back to the student asap. Then I recheck for mastery. I just set any papers that I know are ready to go home in a basket for filing. Each child has a hanging folder with their number for filing. This way on Thursday, I pull the papers out of the folder and stuff the envelope,
