I agree that over rewarding is harmful to students. They do need to develop intrinsic motivation for school and life in general. However, let's not forget about parents. A childs values (good or bad) come from the home. We can try with all of our might to instill/change those values for the one year we have, but the home life is much more influential. I honestly don't think what we do in class will make or break a child's character. We can try all we want and help to a certain degree, but the basic value structure (or lack thereof) comes from home. So why are you people attacking each other over it?!?
