    interview question

I teach in my local school district where my children have all attended the local schools. The teachers at my kid's school were all very supportive when I was in school, allowing me to use their rooms for unofficial observations, etc. Yes, it is a little "weird" at first to be working as a teacher in these same hallways, but it does already feel like "home".
My district actually told me that they like to hire "locals" exactly for the reasons that have been mentioned (familiarity, etc.) but also because you have "a stake" in the community. One of the questions that I was asked: Since you live in this community, how would you handle a parent who approaches you "on the street" (in the grocery store, at a local ball game, etc) & starts to discuss their child's school progress or asks about another student, etc.? The correct response (or at least the one I gave): Politely explain that this is neither the time or place, but if you want to set up an appointment after school I'd have materials avaialble to show you......
    Good Luck!
