Teaching it at the Beginning By Shannon
|
| I think what VSM said (about teaching rules/procedures as if you are teaching math) is a very good point to remember at the beginning of school, especially for new teachers. My first year I did the get to know you activities the first days of school, and at the same time tried to teach procedures. But I became anxious to start teaching the curriculum, although I hadn't really drilled those rules and procedures into the kids yet. Now I know that the first days of school should be used to set the tone for the year. Even if you start the curriculum a little later, you will actually save time in the long run if you teach rules and procedures first.
