I number my students and start with number 1 to be helper for that day (or week). If the student is absent, I go to the next number. You can either forget that student until the next time, or you can let her/him be the helper when they return. When I get to the end of my list, I start over again with number 1. If the student needs help with some particular chore, I let him/her choose helpers. This way has made life eary for me because the Student of the Day does everything that I would need help in doing. I hope this helps you. I find it very hard to keep up with a Helper Chart on the wall.
